"Only a handful will be chosen. Talent is not enough to pass through the eye of the needle. You have to find someone with power who is a believer in your potential"..."Make someone confident enough to feel they can do anything, by giving them values and encouragement, and a code by which to live."..." 'Good' don't (sic) matter ... unless you're good and have friends in the business" Paraphrased from Nashville by Pat Booth, © Orcam Corporation 2001

OTHER COURSES
Whilst our courses are basically industry-approved post grad ones, we also cater for those who want to find out more about film production techniques with our shorter courses. If, however, you feel like taking a university "media" course as well, it is suggested that you take that course after, and not before, one of our courses, as you will then have a better understanding when you move on in your studies.![]()
The picture (left) shows students lining up our S35mm Mitchell BNCR during rehearsals for ARP. The Mitchell was acquired from Paramount in LA a few years ago, and had been used on many films, including the TV series "Cheers". For its use over here, they kindly converted its video tap to PAL. We link it to a Sony GVD deck (Oli on the extreme left is looking at its screen) so that we can tape all takes and immediately try it in the Avid.
OUR NEXT IMMEDIATE COURSE IS THE AUGUST SUMMER SCHOOL
AFTER WHICH THE NEXT SHORT PART-TIME COURSES start in September 2008.
These will be the 3 month part-time ones held during the evenings of Tuesday and Thursday, and repeated during the day on Wednesdays, so you have a choice, depending upon when you're free. These popular courses are normally repeated every academic term.
But visit our PART-TIME DAY COURSE page to see the NEW re-vamped course now on offer from April 2008. This has just started, so apart from the Part-time Courses in September, the next course to be held is the FULLTIME THREE WEEK SUMMER SCHOOL in August. Maybe this is just right for you?
DRAMA
We at the Brighton Film School emphasis the importance of drama in Film Education, both in the training of Directors and Writers. The important discipline of improvisation is a particular aid to the latter who have to enact each character as they are created. Whilst we include this as part of the One Year Course, we have decided to hold special separate courses for others who may find this useful, including not just the screenwriter but the novelist too.
We are therefore launching a DRAMA IMPROVISATION COURSE FOR WRITERS which will be lead by Freyja Sewell, a Bedales Alumnus who trained at the Oxford School of Drama. This will be a 5 week course starting shortly - probably in the New Year - at a cost of £100.
Improvisation
Unfreezes the petrified imagination
Develops narrative skills and
Helps explore the nature of spontaneous creativity
The MEISNER TECHNIQUE courses for Actors who want to learn how to React will be held by Maria Lloyd. These will initially be One Day Courses held on a Saturday, and will start in the New Year.
JUNIOR FILM SCHOOL
Following a very successful KIDS' SUMMER SCHOOL it has now been decided to offer a PART-TIME JUNIOR FILM SCHOOL on Saturday afternoons. This will be a 10 week course starting on 12th January 2008 running from 2pm-5pm and will be ideal for children aged 9-14. Children will learn to plan, script, shoot and edit a short film in small groups under the guidance of industry professionals. The fee for the complete course including the use of all equipment and materials is £240. All students will receive a DVD of their completed film and certificate at a Premiere which will be open to their family and friends. Please apply to www.kidsfilmschool.com or telephone Ewan on 01273 573857.
